Prepless porcelain veneer problem

I got one of those prepless porcelain veneers. I’m happy with how they look, but my lip tends to catch on them. Is there any way to fix this?

Gina,

This is a potential problem with no-prep veneers. I suspect you received Lumineers or a similar brand.  With traditional porcelain veneers, your teeth are prepared by removing a miniscule amount of your tooth structure about the depth of a fingernail.  This makes room for the porcelain veneers, keeping it flush with your tooth.

There isn’t much you can do to change it unless you have your dentist shave them a little and then polish them so they retain their shine. Though, to do that, you would need a highly skilled cosmetic dentist. Even then you run the risk of shaving through to your natural teeth.

Other than that you can try to live with it or have the veneers re-done, this time with a different brand and some tooth preparation.
